Cultural Exchange - SIFA Children's Choir
In mid-2008, many of the founding board members of UAGI came together for the first time while preparing for the 10 days that the SIFA Children's Choir of Uganda spent in Chicago during their six-month tour of the United States. While arranging for hospitality, bookings, and recreational/educational experiences for the children, the roots of UAGI developed.
Under its Cultural Initiative, UAGI hosted the children’s Choir in
Chicago in Partnership with the SGI Center and the Columbia
College of Chicago.
The national fundraising tour was sponsored by Together We Can Change The World, and TWCCTW's support of the children is continuing.
The children are now happily settled in boarding schools in Uganda, and UAGI arranged for our president, Ron Mutebi, to visit them and bring them TWCCTW members' gifts on his travels to Uganda. This ongoing relationship is continuing with visits and pen-pal relationships between Chicago students and SIFA Choir members.
